Welcome to Summer Term in Year 5 at Eynesbury CE Primary School. 
Year 5 will be taught by Mrs Sheperd (Monday-Wednesday) and Mrs Capper (Thursday and Friday) and are supported by a number of Teaching Assistants throughout the week.  
 
 

Welcome to Summer Term   What are we studying this term? 

This term will we be studying the following: 
 
Science : Living things and their habitats and animals including humans. 
During this unit, we will be describing the differences in lifecycles of mammals, amphibians, insects and birds. We will also investigate the changes that take place as a human develops to old age. 
 
History and Geography: Vikings and Anglo Saxons  
During this unit of study, we will be learning about the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. Part of this unit will involve learning about settlements within the UK and the reasons behind their names and locations and land use. We will invesitgate the Roman withdrawal from Britain. 
 
 
RE: Hinduism and creation of the world. 
Pupils will learn about the Hindu religion, including customs, traditions and beliefs. Pupils will also be investigating a range of religions beliefs about the creation of the world. 
 
 
PE: Swimming and Athletics 
PE this term will usually be on a Thursday. However, we would suggest that PE kits stay in school in case of any unforeseen changes. Outdoor kit will be required, this should include a pair of well fitting trainers for pupils to change into. Swimming will take place on Wednesday's.  
 
Computing:  
This term we hope to continue to encourage the pupils use of Read Theory and Times Tables Rockstars. All pupils within Year 5 have their own personal username and password to log into these websites. Please let a member of the Year 5 team know if your child needs these user details again. We will also being using technology to create art. 
 
Art and Design Technology: 
This term we will be creating illuminated letters, making Anglo-Saxon inspired jewellery and cooking healthy meals inspired by the foods avaliable to the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. 
 
 
 
This term we will be studying Michael Morpurgo's book Beowulf, in some of our English lessons. A polite reminder that all pupils should be reading at home to an adult at least three times per week. Please ensure this reading is recorded in your child's Home-School communication book. 
Please note that home-learning tasks will be set on a Friday and due in on a Wednesday, at the latest. Please encourage your child to ask any questions they may have on a Monday or a Tuesday to ensure their home-learning is completed on time.  
 
Spellings will usually be tested on Wednesday's and set on a weekly basis. 
Indoor PE kit: 
White T -shirt and navy or black shorts. 
 
 
Some top tips for staying safe online, think, are you a responsible user? 
Outdoor PE kit: 
As indoor, plus outdoor shoes, sweatshirt and jogging bottoms. 
All pupils now have a Times Tables Rock Stars log in. Please ensure your child is logging in regularly.
