Welcome to the Year 5 Class Page! 

Welcome to Spring Term in Year 5 at Eynesbury CE Primary School. 
Year 5 will continue to be taught by Mrs West (Monday-Wednesday) and Mrs Capper (Thursday and Friday) and are supported by a number of Teaching Assistants throughout the week.  
 
 

What are we studying this term? 

This term will we be studying the following: 
 
Science : Forces 
During this unit we will be describing the forces of air resistance, water resistance, gravity and friction. We will be aiming to recognise that some mechanisms including: levers, pulleys and gears allow a smaller force to have a greater effect. Our focus scientist for this unit is Isaac Newton. 
 
History and Geography: Ancient Egypt  
During this unit of study we will be learning about the Ancient Egyptians. Part of this unit will involve an Ancient Egyptian day on the 15th January. 
 
 
RE: Hinduism 
Pupils will have the opperutnity to learn about the Hindu religion. Including customs, traditions and beliefs. 
 
 
PSHE: Playing an active role as citizens 
During this unit we will be investigating how pupils roles as citizens within the home, school and wider communities may change as they grow older. During this unit we hope to develop pupils sense of self and social responsibility at a local, national and global level. 
 
PE: Gymnastics and Netball 
PE this term will usually be on a Monday and Wednesday. However, we would suggest that PE kits stay in school in case of any unforeseen changes. Both indoor and outdoor kit will be required, this includes a pair of well fitting trainers for pupils to change into.  
 
Computing:  
This term we hope to continue to encourage the pupils use of Read Theory and the newly introduced Times Tables Rockstars. All pupils within Year 5 have their own personal username and password to log into these websites. Please let a member of the Year 5 team know if your child needs these user details again. 
 
As in any other year group we encourage the children to read regularly at home. We ask for you to aim for at least three times per week and record this in your child home-school communication book. 
Spellings will be set on a weekly basis unless otherwise informed. 
Please note that home-learning tasks will be set on a Friday and due in on a Wednesday, at the latest. Please encourage your child to ask any questions they may have on a Monday or a Tuesday to ensure their home-learning is completed on time.  
Indoor PE kit: 
White T -shirt and navy or black shorts. 
No shoes please. 
 
Some top tips for staying safe online, think, are you a responsible user? 
Outdoor PE kit: 
As indoor, plus outdoor shoes, sweatshirt and jogging bottoms. 
All pupils now have a Times Tables Rock Stars log in. Please ensure your child is logging in regularly.

Last week we enjoyed all the Christmas performances.
