Welcome to the Year 5 Class Page! 

Welcome to Autumn term in Year 5 at Eynesbury CE Primary School. 
Year 5 will be taught by Mrs Haupt (Monday-Wednesday) and Mrs Capper (Thursday and Friday) and are supported by Mrs McCrum throughout the week.  

Welcome to the Autumn Term   What are we studying this term? 

Science : Space and Earth. 
We will be learning about Earth and Space, looking at the movement of the earth and other planets and learning about how the rotation of the Earth creates day and night. We will also look at gravity as a force during this unit. After half term we will be looking into forces. . 
Geography: Space  
In Geography we will be identifying the position and significance of features such as latitude, longitude and time zones., and familiarising ourselves with the world and where places are through maps and pictures. 
We will be investigating what it means to say God is holy and loving?’ Discussing passages in the Bible and visiting Ely Cathedral, We will writing our own commandments and discussing justice. 
PE: Handball and  
PE this term will be on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. Tuesday will be indoors and Wednesday will be outdoors.  
This term we hope to continue to encourage the pupils to use Times Tables Rockstars. All pupils within Year 5 have their own personal username and password to log into these websites. Please let a member of the Year 5 team know if your child needs these user details again. We will also being using technology to learn about E-safety.  
Art and Design Technology: 
We will be creating moon pictures and focusing on the work of Peter Thorpe we will also be designing and making a space rocket. 


In English this term we will be completing a book study on ‘Cosmic’ by Frank Cottrell-Boyce; writing explanation texts linked to our Space topic; writing newspaper reports and stories based on short films . A polite reminder that all pupils should be reading at home to an adult at least three times per week. Please ensure this reading is recorded in your child's Home-School communication book. 
Please note that home-learning tasks will be set on a Friday and due in on a Wednesday, at the latest. Please encourage your child to ask any questions they may have on a Monday or a Tuesday to ensure their home-learning is completed on time.  
Spellings will usually be tested on Thursdays and set on a weekly basis. 
Indoor PE kit: 
White T -shirt and navy or black shorts. 
Some top tips for staying safe online, think, are you a responsible user? 
Outdoor PE kit: 
As indoor, plus outdoor shoes, sweatshirt and jogging bottoms. 
All pupils now have a Times Tables Rock Stars log in. Please ensure your child is logging in regularly.
